Drawing, Diagrams, Dance with Jake Walker

Explore the intersection of art and movement in this innovative workshop led by Jake Walker. Participants will create unique drawings that serve as graphic scores for dance, using mark-making, lines, arrows, and text to craft experimental diagrams. Thursday 13 February, 3:30pm - 6:30pm

Coinciding with the launch of his solo exhibition of new paintings at Arrowtown’s Superpartner Gallery, opening February 15, London based artist Jake Walker presents the workshop, Drawing, Diagrams, Dance.

Through collaborative exercises, you’ll trace reference images and use projectors to expand your drawings, and create a large wall work. Jake will work with dancers to transform these marks into movements, showcasing the creative possibilities of drawing as a tool for performance.

About Jake Walker, by Superpartner Gallery, Arrowtown:

Jake Walker's immersion in club and dance environments and his background studying at the Royal Ballet School infuses his work with a pulsating energy that reflects the communal and transformative aspects of these spaces. The rhythm and flow inherent in his paintings mirror the cadence of music and movement, creating a dialogue between auditory and visual experiences. This synthesis of influences underscores the multidisciplinary nature of his practice, positioning his work within a broader cultural and artistic context.

Jake Walker studied at the Royal Ballet School, London, before gaining his BA in Fine Art from the Slade School of Fine Art, London, in 2023. He won the Max Werner Drawing Prize in 2022.

His recent solo exhibitions and presentations include, “Rattling into a Rhythm" (2024) at Sherbet Green Gallery in London and “Sound Environments” (2024) at The Cabin & The Bunker, Los Angeles. He completed residencies at the Danny First La Brea Studio Residency in Los Angeles (2024) and Good Eye Projects, London (2023). Walker received the Max Werner Drawing Prize in 2022 and graduated from the Slade School of Fine Art in 2023. His work features in the collection of University College, London, as well as private collections in the UK, Europe, the United States, and New Zealand.

Jake Walker lives and works in London.
