Community Draw: Portraits in Colour

Join us with sketchbook and pencil in hand for Community Draw, on the second Tuesday of every month. No experience necessary - come along and embrace the joy of different approaches to drawing.

Our March session is Portraits in Colour with Ika Willett.

Join artist Ika for an inspiring evening of portrait drawing with a focus on colour values. This session is designed to demystify portrait creation — participants will use provided face guidelines to confidently sketch a face, then explore how light and shadow are built by using different values of colours. Using crayons or pastels, you’ll learn to create depth and dimension in  your portrait by layering or blending different colour values. Whether you're a beginner or have some experience, this workshop offers a supportive, step-by-step approach to making portraits feel alive with colour. All materials provided.

About the facilitator: Ika came to NZ for her Masters Degree in Graphic Design and Animation. Her background was in Television Industries for number of years, back in Indonesia and in NZ. When she moved to Queenstown in 2002, she took back her hands-on forms of art. Nowadays she mainly works on commission painting portraits.
