Te Wāhi Toi/The Arts Place exists to connect the creative community of Queenstown and Wānaka with audiences, students, teachers, spaces and each other. We are a not-for-profit organisation powered by Three Lakes Cultural Trust and inspired by local arts and culture.
"Braided Strata" is a jewellery exhibition at Giraffe Art Gallery on from the 29th Nov until the 18th December. The exhibition opening will be 5pm onwards Friday 28th November, with an artists talk at about 6pm.
The jewellery shown is a braiding together of layers of geology, sculpture, structure, art and wearability. I am using ancient materials: argillite, pakohe, granite, quartz and other hard stone from the South Coast to construct jewellery that is worn around the neck, but departs from expected necklace and pendant structures. The weight of the stones and their balance against each other holds the pieces in place on the wearer's body.
I will be in the gallery almost every day 9am-5pm for the duration of the exhibition and welcome anyone who would like to try on the pieces or chat about my processes.
