In this session, we're thrilled to welcome the WASABI Choir to our Saturday Arts Social. Founded in 2015, this vibrant community choir brings together voices from all backgrounds through the joy of singing. Led by the wonderful Meg Hirata, their repertoire is a rich blend of English, Japanese, and Māori songs—from pop and folk to traditional melodies. Whether you're a music lover or just looking for a warm and uplifting way to spend your Saturday morning, come along and let their harmonies brighten your day. No singing required—just bring yourself and enjoy the music!
About your facilitator: WASABI Choir is a vibrant community choir based in Queenstown, bringing people together from all backgrounds through the shared joy of singing. Founded in 2015 to help younger generations of Japanese New Zealanders stay connected to their cultural roots through music, Wasabi has since blossomed into a warm, multicultural garden of voices – open to singers of all nationalities who love harmony and heart. Led by Meg Hirata – whose radiant energy and heartfelt arrangements bring the group to life – their repertoire is a rich blend of styles and languages. Around half their songs are in English, with the rest shared between Japanese and the occasional Māori piece, weaving together elements of pop, folk, and traditional melodies. Whether in rehearsal or performance, they aim to create music that touches the soul and brings joy to both singers and listeners.
