Since 2020, Revulva has been lighting up stages across Aotearoa with their high-energy, theatrical performances at festivals like 121 Festival, Tora Bombora, and Nest Fest. Inspired by icons such as Prince, Talking Heads and Herbie Hancock, their sound fuses funk, soul, and disco with a uniquely Kiwi twist.
This femme-led eight-piece powerhouse is fronted by bassist, vocalist, and composer Phoebe Johnson, who founded the band to address the lack of women in the jazz scene she experienced in both her jazz school and Wellington’s music community. Featuring locally raised saxophonist, vocalist, multi-instrumentalist Lily Shaw, as well as Zane Hawkins (guitar), Hector McLachlan (keys), Toby Leman (saxophone), Kaito Walley (trombone and percussion), Mysty Cooke (trumpet), and Lennox Grootjans (drums), the band delivers electrifying live shows.
Known for their heart, sexuality, feminist ethos, and punk attitude, Revulva’s music is as bold as it is danceable. With silky vocals, sharp socially conscious lyrics, spellbinding horns, and groovy rhythms, they promise a night of energy!
Grab your dancing shoes and get ready to party in the Palace with Revulva - an experience you don’t want to miss!
