5 May: Ngā Manu Manahua ō Tāhuna

In this session, participants will learn the history, translation, context, pronunciation, and composition of each song. We will start with two waiata which are both Ngai Tahu Anthems, honouring the local heritage. These songs are 'Ko Te Whirika' and 'Manu Tira'.

About the facilitator: Naresha Willis has a range of singing experience from early childhood, choirs, church worship leading, solo performance and working with bands. I am of NZ European ancestry raised in a Māori family immersed in the culture and language, now a qualified Māori medium educator. Involved in Kapa Haka from childhood through to regional adult competitive stages both in participation and instruction.
