Daniel Verstappen is a Belgian international pianist and composer, known for his distinctive cinematic and neoclassical musical language, bridging classical piano tradition with filmic storytelling, contemporary composition, and cross-cultural collaboration. Daniel studied piano and double bass at the LemmensInstitute in Leuven and has built an international career over the past decade,performing across Europe, Asia, Australia, and New Zealand. His performanceshave taken place at leading venues including the Sydney Opera House, CarnegieHall (New York, pictured), EXPO Dubai, and the JIO World Centre in Mumbai, where heperformed at the invitation of the Belgian Embassy in the presence of Her RoyalHighness Princess Astrid of Belgium.

Daniel’s artistic work sits at the intersectionof concert music and film music. His compositions and arrangements areoften described as emotionally layered, evocative, and highly visual, with astrong sense of narrative flow, rhythm, and atmosphere. Alongside his soloprojects, he frequently collaborates with orchestras, choirs, and localartists, using music as a vehicle for cultural dialogue and connection.

In 2024, Daniel was part of the artisticprogramme at Te Atamira, presenting a concert within his ReconnectionWorld Tour and leading a piano masterclass. This earlier collaborationlaid the foundation for his return in 2026, this time in the form of an artistresidency in Queenstown. During the residency, he will focus on thecreation of new work while engaging in workshops, masterclasses, andcollaborative sessions with local musicians and young artists, in closedialogue with the Te Atamira community.

Daniel’s 2026 visit to New Zealand is part of anextensive national tour, including performances and collaborations in Hamilton,Auckland, Dunedin and Christchurch, as well as the recording of new repertoireon the South Island.
