The Power of Artist-Run Initiatives

Find out how artist-run spaces are fuelling creative, connected communities. These grassroots hubs give room for bold ideas, experimental work, and voices that don’t always fit within traditional institutions.

Nat Tozer founder of artist run initiative mothermother will dive into how these spaces spark collaboration across disciplines, create opportunities for underrepresented artists, and unite people through the power of creativity.

Don't miss out on the chance to explore how these spaces are making a real difference in local communities—and how you can be a part of it!

A bit about mothermother

mothermother is an artist-run initiative with an inclusive kaupapa that offers support and visibility for community. They hold a strong focus on supporting local artists, and celebrate growing connections outside Tāmaki Makaurau.

mothermother promotes under-represented artists and challenges hierarchical curatorial methods by elevating the unity of a healthy network. A stable future for all depends on it. Knowledge is held by the greater group, where the collective aspect of mothermother is enacted through invitation, friendship, gift and reciprocity.

mothermother artists are not necessarily biological mothers, but rather embody a kaupapa of manaakitanga, caretaking and support.

mothermother is founded and organised by Nat Tozer, funded by Creative New Zealand.
