NZ Mountain Film & Book Festival

The NZ Mountain Film & Book Festival returns to the Southern Lakes in June 2026, with the main festival held in Wānaka from 19–23 June followed by two nights of screenings in Queenstown on 25–26 June. Now in its 24th year, the festival showcases an inspiring programme of award-winning international and New Zealand adventure films, alongside author talks, guest speakers, book events and panel discussions exploring mountains, exploration, environmental themes and life in the outdoors.

Each year the festival brings together filmmakers, writers, adventurers and outdoor enthusiasts from around New Zealand and around the world. The programme features finalists and winners from the festival’s international film and book competitions, sharing powerful stories of climbing, skiing, adventure sports, conservation and human endurance in some of the planet’s most spectacular landscapes.

In addition to film screenings and literary events, the festival also supports emerging storytellers through initiatives such as the Adventure Film School, where aspiring filmmakers can learn from industry professionals and develop their skills in adventure filmmaking. Whether you’re passionate about the outdoors, love powerful storytelling, or simply want to experience extraordinary adventures on the big screen, the NZ Mountain Film & Book Festival offers an unforgettable cultural experience in the heart of the Southern Alps.
