Breakfast With Papers: War Stories – Wānaka Festival of Colour

As events in Ukraine, Gaza and Sudan dominate the news cycle, it feels like our post-World War II “long peace” is coming to an end. What is it like to see these conflicts up close? How do you do justice to the stories of war?

Today, Senior Journalist Susie Ferguson co-hosts RNZ’s Saturday Morning programme. But early in her career she covered conflicts in Iraq, Afghanistan, Sierra Leone and Lebanon.

Lisette Reymer, Senior Journalist for Stuff, won praise for her coverage of the Israel/Gaza war and Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. She was named 2024 TV Reporter of the Year at the NZTV Awards. Over the course of a four-decade career in journalism, former Newshub presenter Mike McRoberts (Ngāti Kahungunu) has reported from numerous conflict zones, including Gaza, Afghanistan, Iraq, Lebanon and East Timor.

Grab a paper and join three of Aotearoa’s top journalists as they discuss stories from the front lines and from today’s headlines.

On as part of the Wānaka Festival of Colour.
