Ængles - At the World's Edge Festival

Our Wānaka weekend opens in the Rippon Hall with Ængles, a programme exploring the melting pot of folk influences that came to define the sounds of the United Kingdom in the 20th century. In between performances, in this most majestic of buildings, architect  Fred van Brandenburg will speak about the powerful relationship between his architecture and music.

This programme hold echoes of pieces played elsewhere during the AWE week, strains of music of other times and other places coming through in the work of Peter Maxwell-Davies and Vaughan Williams. From relatively modern England we come back to Aotearoa through the work of this year's Composer-in-Residence, Eve de Castro-Robinson before we return back to Britain and Ireland with ancient folk songs, reels and reimaginings of the folk tradition.
