Get ready to embark on a magical journey this festive season with A World of Christmas, Queenstown's much-loved community Christmas show. Taking place on Sunday, 8th December 2024, at the Queenstown Events Centre, this heartwarming production brings together the joy of storytelling, dazzling performances, and the rich diversity of Christmas traditions from around the globe.

Follow siblings Holly and Robin as they join the mischievous yet lovable Yule Cat on an unforgettable adventure. Together, they explore the Christmas traditions of Iceland, Victorian England, the Philippines, and India, encountering quirky holiday characters like Sausage Swiper, Doorway Sniffer, and Spoon Licker along the way. Through vibrant songs, stunning dances, and humorous storytelling, the siblings discover the true spirit of Christmas—giving from the heart, sharing joy, and cherishing time with loved ones.

This enchanting production features performances by Queenstown Gymnastics Club, Silk and Circus, Wakatipu Conservatoire of Classical Ballet, Remarkable Men’s Ballet, and the 100 Voices Choir. With its blend of live performance, dazzling costumes, and stunning visual effects, the show promises to captivate audiences of all ages.

Tickets are accessible for all, with prices set at $10 for adults and $5 for children aged 5-16 (under 5s are free). In the spirit of the season, the show also offers a ‘Buy One, Gift One’ initiative, allowing audience members to purchase tickets for local families in need. Thanks to generous donations in previous years, families supported by charities like Salvation Army Queenstown, Happiness House, and Big Buddy were able to experience the magic of the show.

Behind the scenes, this community-driven production is brought to life by the hard work of local groups and volunteers. The show features a cast of 27 talented children aged 8-14, with additional acts performed by local creative groups. From selecting the script and holding auditions to weeks of rehearsals, every element comes together to create a seamless and magical experience. The final days are especially exciting as lighting, sound, and visual effects are added to bring the production to life.

This year’s theme, which explores Christmas traditions from around the world, resonates deeply with the diversity of the Queenstown community. It offers a chance to learn something new while celebrating the shared joy of the season. And, if you’re lucky, you may even spot Santa Claus making a special guest appearance!

Want to be part of the magic? The team is looking for volunteers to assist with backstage dressing, ushering, and general support during the two shows. If you'd like to lend a hand, reach out at [email protected].
